All of me in A – Z …

I’ve recently come across some bloggers doing a post called the A-Z of me which is a really cute idea so I thought I would jump on the bandwagon for a bit of fun.

Originally I thought I would knock this post out in 10 mins flat, but it turned out to be more of a challenge that I thought. I’ve had to go away and come back a few times to this and in the true spirit of me, it’s a bit lighthearted and focused mainly on everything I love.

A) Alice in Wonderland

This is a funny one to start with, but yes I’m a little obsessed with Alice in Wonderland in all it’s reincarnations. My first exposure was to Disney, then only when I was significantly older did I read the books, which I loved. It’s utter nonsense, filled with a hint of madness, whimsy and hope. I feel it is very reflective sometimes of the way I think.

B) Blogger

I do use this term loosely. While I’ve been blogging for years now, it’s also been erratic and sometimes I look at UKSaffa and think, ‘you could be so much better, cooler, sleeker, powerful..’ with someone doing this full time. I still have aspirations of being a real blogger one day.

C) Creative

This is another descriptive term I use loosely. I studied at Graphic Design School, I do creative stuff for a living but creativity takes time and inspiration and the commitment to follow through with your crazy idea. Perhaps I am more a facilitator of creativity than an actual creative in my own right.

D) Dad

Even though thoughts of my Dad pop into my head daily, I don’t often stop and think about my Dad ever. Not because I don’t care, but because even though it’s been a couple of years now since he moved on, it’s still a punch to the gut. Even taking the time out to write this relatively straight forward paragraph that says nothing of the man he was or how much I loved him has caused tears to freefall down my face. I never doubted in my whole life just how much he loved me.

E) Easy Going

I’m less easy going than I used to be. It comes from being married and a mom. Chill is not always a good thing but I think I am still more relaxed about a lot of things than most people.

F) Funny

I am the funniest person in my family. 🙂

G) Gems

In a recent trip to Paris I went into a jewellery store and discovered that I have a new found love for sparkly gems. So sparkly!

H) Hippy Chick

I usually term myself as a latent hippy 🙂

I) Ireland

When I was younger I used to read stories about Ireland, and loved Irish characters. The accent was always what I considered to be one of the most awesome accents in the world. I ended up marrying an O’Donnell and we have recently bought a holiday house in Ireland.

J) Jimmy, Jocelyn and Jasmine.

Contrary to rumour, we are not naming our kids with the intent of starting a Kardasianesque brand. What a horrific idea. In actual fact Jimmy was named after some of the best rock icons of our time (Hendrix, Page, Morrison), Jocelyn was in the movie “A Knights Tale” which we loved and we just liked the name Jasmine. So no, no real planning went into this.

K) Killer heels

I love my shoes, especially my flashy ones. I can’t wear all of them as much as I used to, but I love putting them on, just give me an occasion!

L) Lil Fella

For anyone who was following my blog back in the ‘Blogger’ days, I used to refer to Jimmy as Lil Fella. This term eventually fell away but to this day even though he is bigger than me and not nearly as cute as he was, he is and will always be my Lil Fella.

M) Married Mom

This is essentially how I see myself. Not a career woman or a wonder woman or an independent woman (although I have elements of that) but first and foremost I am a family woman.

N) Netflix

(And Amazon Prime and various other online movie streaming)
I’m a bit of a box set junkie so when I find a new series that grips my attention, I’m in heaven.

O) Once Upon a Time

One of my favourite series on TV at the moment. What’s not to love about every fairy tale you’ve ever read coming together in one big story.

P) Poppet

My husbands term of endearment for me. It was picked up from ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ as a joke and it just stuck.

Q) Quirky

Another word for individually odd. What can I say

R) Reading

One of my favourite things to do and something that I would like to be doing a lot more of. In the sunshine. With a cocktail.

S) South Africa

One of my favourite places in the world, no matter what those idiot politicians do to the place. There is a certain soul, vibe and joy pulsing through the heart of South Africa, and it is always a joy to go back. Cape Town is my home town and there is a certain comfort in knowing that though things move on, they never really change.

T) Teenager

I have a teenager. I also have started getting grey hair.

U) Unsigned London

I loved this festival. A lot. It’s a newbie and it will be back in 2017. I cannot say how happy I am to hear that.

V) Valentine’s Day

This is a constant source of annoyance for me. Every year we agree not to do the Valentine’s thing and every year my husband breaks and ends up buying something or doing something. Babe. Seriously. I love you. Please stop.

W) Weekend Breaks

A much better way to express love is to say, ‘Let’s leave the children and just be you and me for a day or two’ Bliss. Pure bliss.

X) Xmas

It’s the most wonderful time of the year. I love everything about it. Everything.

Y) Yacht

I have been on a yacht that my parents arranged that for my 21st birthday and, with a couple of close friends, I went sailing out of Cape Town harbour with a boat full of cocktails and the most amazing sunset. It was a good day.

Z) zzzzzz

Yes well I’m a mother. I like sleep.
